Flax has a distinctivre straw-like odour, it is a natural characteristic of the product and not a "defect". It is usually only discernible when first opening the packages. Once it is processed, cut and tied etc. and has chance to "air" the odour of individual pieces is almost undetectable. It is packed by weight, approximate meterage is provided as a gude only. It is biodegradeable. Flax fibers taken from the stem of the plant are two to three times as strong as cotton fibers. The best gradesof flax are used for fabrics such as damasks and lace. Flax is also used in the production of bank notes and similar high grade papers.
